Okay for starters the EVGA GTX 260 works well WHEN it works. I purchased this card March 2009 and have gone through two of them already. Both with different issues. I even went so far as to purchase the recommended power supply at additional cost to make sure this card had all that it required for power, it also has plenty of extra air circulation with 5 fans in a roomy box, so its not an over heating issue, nor an over burdened one. The first card started going bad by displaying solid light blue screens, gold screens and streaming colors after a period of time playing games etc... EVGA handled it quickly and professionally replacing the bad card with a new one. This all took place NOV 2009 just 8 months after my first purchase of this card.
Now forward to May 2010 just six months after getting the replacement the new EVGA GTX 260 has a high pitched whine coming from it. I have researched this to find numerous complaints from others having the same issue. I took the card out, cleaned it, checked it over....nothing.
I contacted EVGA only to be told: "Answered By Jayson C (5/5/2010 6:47:46 AM): Unfortunately at this time we would not be able to replace the product has it has been replaced prior and currently out of warranty." I understand the first card's warranty should have expired but this was a brand new one and the warranty should have followed it with a new one.
So, the lesson learned at this point that I am attempting to impress upon anyone considering this card is this: The card apparently is only good for a year at a time at MOST, in my case 8 months at a time. IF you use the warranty the company feels that replacing a defective product is only good once, after that you are out of luck and money and on your own. I have noticed researching this card that numerous people are having issues with it, I would suggest using your hard earned dollars on something made of quality that works.
I hope this review helps at least one person out there from making a poor purchase choice.Get more detail about EVGA GeForce GTX260 Core 216 896MB DDR3 PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card 896-P3-1255-AR - Lifetime Warranty.
